The last time I stayed up for 24 hours straight I was in college and doing so accomplished nothing worthwhile or long-lasting. I hope to change that July 29 by blogging for 24 hours straight for the benefit of Midland Fair Havens, a Christian-based transitional housing facility for women and their children. I am privileged to be able to serve that organization as a member of the board of directors and have seen the dramatic change in women's lives that comes when they receive help through Fair Havens. I felt I could have a greater impact for them by participating in Blogathon 2006.
I would love it if you would consider sponsoring me. You can do so through either an hourly rate (if you think I might just hang in for 12 or 14 hours) or you can donate a flat one-time fee based on the assumption that large doses of caffeine will in fact keep me going for the entire 24 hours. The by-product of that contribution? You can stay up all night with me and read my blog entries. Kidding. KIDDING. But you can if you like :) I will actually be simul-blogging, posting the same content both here and over at theBREW, which I run as editor of MyWestTexas.com.
I'll be writing more about Blogathon and Fair Havens in the coming days and again, please consider making a donation to this wonderful organization that I hope to support.
You can make a contribution now (which I would love because I would know people will actually be behind me BEFORE the event, or from 8 a.m.-8 a.m. on the day of the event, July 29-30.
You can contribute here. Don't let the registration page scare you ... it's very short and will be very worthwhile to the women and the children who are on the receiving end of your kindness.
