If you were in Centennial Plaza Saturday, you were one of the fortunate few

Those folks who grumble that there's never anything to do in Midland were likely not at the Salsa and Margarita Festival in downtown Midland Saturday night. The event, sponsored by a local Knights of Columbus Council, was packed with as much musical talent and great moments as these parts have seen in some time.

Jonny Lang is just phenomenal. Twenty-six years old and absolutely bursting at the seams with an incredible gift of playing the blues. If you cross Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar and Joe Cocker's voice, you have Jonny Lang. Which is not to compare him to either, but it'll give you an idea of the type music you would have heard downtown. He is a gifted guitar player. If you can make comparisons, make one to Norah Jones: both Jones and Lang possess unusually massive amounts of talent for artists their age.

Delbert McClinton, on the other end of the spectrum, is 40 years older than Lang. Watching the old man's roadhouse blues was one of the neatest things I've ever seen in Centennial Plaza. It was nearly impossible not to have a good time if you were witnessing this. At 66, he gives all of us approaching middle age a lot of hope.

These two guys gifted Midland with superb performances.
