One of my favorite people (not to mention one of the wisest women I know) is Sister Mary Grace Erl. That's her praying at right. During a recent visit to Our Lady of Grace Monastery, the convent where she serves as prioress, I asked her if the cloistered sisters in her order were at all affected by conditions in the outside world, sch as violence, terrorism, the wavering economy, politics. And S. Mary Grace told me the sisters were involved in those issues simply by virtue of offering prayers to those who are more directly affected by such hardships and tragedy.
Earlier this week, S. Mary Grace emailed me and told me that she and the others at Our Lady of Grace, had been praying for the outcome of this election more so than any other election in recent memory. She told me that a priest friend had happened by and offered the nuns the following advice when praying for an election. The priest said a prayer during the campaign season should be"
not the ones we deserve.'
Amen, Jimmy. Thank you, Sister Mary.
