Punked: Lyle Lovett to play Midland, just not our Midland

OK, maybe not punked, but here's the deal on Lyle Lovett coming to Midland.

Lyle Lovett is scheduled to play Midland, just not the Texas Midland.

The confusion all started when our weekly Sunday music page, The Constant, listed the Texas singer-songwriter as penciled in to play the Midland Center on February 21. Nancy Adamson, the editor of the page, received her information from Pollstar.com, a national web site listing major music and entertainment events. As of Tuesday morning, the site still listed Lyle and John Hiatt as Midland, Texas bound on Feb. 21.

Questions began to arise when a faithful Sticky Doorknobs reader checked John Hiatt's site, which showed he was playing the Midland Center for the Arts in Midland, Michigan, not The Midland Center here.

Wanda Hudgens, office manager at our Midland Center, said she confirmed this morning with the Midland, Mich. Midland Center that Lyle and John were indeed playing there February 21, not here. Which suited Wanda and the folks at our Midland Center just fine because that's the date they had set aside for the Bynum School annual fundraiser. (Checking with a Bynum rep yesterday I was told that Bynum was bringing in a pair of performers, but their names weren't Lyle and John.)

Long story short: No Lyle in Midland, Texas. As one friend told me at the height of yesterday's confusion: "Lyle Lovett wouldn't come to a conservative town like Midland, Texas, anyway."

If only I'd have thought about that yesterday, we wouldn't be in this mess.

I think they might be mistaken....He actually has some very good friends that live here....We might all be surprised one day, when he does show up! :)

There used to be a lot more confusion with the Michigander Midland during an earlier edition of mywesttexas.com, which was part of the same host group as their newspaper ... good thing I spoke Yankee, which helped sort-out the confusion.
