Blogathon readers donate $5,000 for Fair Havens

The really great thing about Blogathon 2006 was that Midland Fair Havens was on the receiving end of such a nice donation provided by so many caring and giving folks out there.

I added up all my sticky notes and figure readers of Eric, over at Fire Ant Gazette, and Sticky Doorknobs came up with a cool $5,000 in pledges to Fair Havens. Fair Havens will receve 100 percent of those proceeds and the thanks is due all to you guys who were so generous with your donations.

Eric has a nice wrap up of all he accomplished over at the Gazette. I didn't keep such a tally, all I know is I wrote until my fingers bled and my eyes could no longer see. OK, a bit of an exaggeration maybe, at least on the fingers part. It's quite difficult being creative between the hours of 1-7 a.m., especially when your body is deprived of sleep. I'm honestly afraid my attempt at a short story might have fallen well short in its objective to deliver a nice little yarn.

So I relegated creativity to a back seat role and just decided completion was the primary goal. It did help that I walked out front about 5 a.m. and a cat ran out from under the bushes in front of me. That gave me just enough energy to go back inside and make another pot of coffee.

I frankly don't care if I ever see coffee OR Red Bull ever again. My stomach has already told me the two drinks won't be accepted in large quantities within the friendly confines of my body for quite some time.

But again, thanks to everyone. We have several prize winners we'll be contacting, and I also leave with the experience that when you are having a name-that-photo or name-that-album-cover contest ... it's best to never name the album cover by its actual name when saving the scanned photo. Not in these days of right mouse clicks. People will swipe those buggers right out from under you with their fancy schmancy technology. :)

And ... just an interesting sidebar here: About 2 in the morning I put out a post asking for creative ways to stay awake. I had tried reading the Old Testament books of Numbers and Deuteronomy and that didn't seem to be doing the trick. So, my assigned blogathon monitor, a blogger in her own right apparently, shot me a response that said "The best way to stay awake? Sex and a cold shower."

Ummmm ... OK, well, thank you very much. My wife is in bed (sick, even) and my son is sitting here next to me trying to stay up with me and is eating homemade chocolate covered pretzels so I guess I'LL JUST HAVE BE TIRED THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

 Kinda weird.

Will I do it again? I'll be a year older then. I may just try to organize my own 24-hour fundraiser. I figure I'd be a big success if I run my own Napathon. I think I could most definitely generate a few hundred bucks in return for lying unconscious for a day.

Over 750 bloggers started out worldwide, most with good intentions, and by the time it was over, 285 had toughed it out and brought in over $100,000.

Thanks again to you for your part.

Thanks

A final word of thanks to everyone for their participation in Blogathon 2006. I'll be posting up a list of winners and supporters, sort of like closing credits, and contacting you guys in the coming few days to specify the kind of gift certificate you prefer.

Meanwhile, you may get an email from blogathon.org asking you to fulfill your pledge by going to a page located through give.org. And that's good, that's the way its supposed to be.

Hope you guys enjoyed and I appreciate it. Thanks, too, for your support of Fair Havens, such a wonderful charitable cause.

Thanks again, and I'll be in touch early this week.

Jimmy
